When it comes to turnaround management, experience and attention to detail are the most important credentials. MBA degrees and CPA designations count for little if the person engaged in the turnaround process doesn’t have a proven track record.
If I can give you the benefit of my experience, be very selective as to your choice of business advisors, solicitor and/or accountant. Most have little to no corporate or commercial experience. They have never been anywhere near a commercial business, they know what they know from books and lecture rooms and while the advice given might be theoretically correct, it may not be commercially appropriate.
Recovery and reconstruction can be a time consuming exercise. The appointment of traditional specialists like accountants or legal firms to help during periods of difficulty or transition can be onerous and impractical. Such firms will quickly erode cash reserves, as their hourly cost structures and corporate style can often be inappropriate to the devotion of time required for the tasks at hand.
